Why these awards?

​

We had long discussed with the Flemish and Walloon deaf sports associations that changes, innovations were needed. We have prepared for five years: created a new website, made a poster, circulated letters, contacted sports management students to help us, etc. In the Netherlands they also award prizes, and we have decided to do the same.

What was the purpose of this show?

​

The sport of deaf is becoming increasingly popular. We want to show that deaf people can do a lot and achieve good sports performances. It is like when you throw a stone into the water: the circles keep expanding. We hope that this evening may be the start, and that the deaf sport and deaf athletes will become more famous!

What else does BDC do for its members?

​

Being a member of BDC offers benefits for deaf athletes. For example, there are deaf people who do judo, which has hitherto been an unknown sport within the deaf sport. We want to give them a chance to participate in the Deaflympics. We also have contacts with the BOIC, through us deaf athletes can request support from, among others, the Flemish Minister for Sport and the provinces.
